Sojourner Truth

(1797-1883) a former slave, she was an African American abolitionist and women’s rights advocate. She is best known for her speech, “Ain’t I a Woman?,” which she delivered at a women’s convention in 1851. During the Civil War she recruited black soldiers for the Union Army and collected supplies for the troops.
